Last Spring we had the pleasure of visiting the Eastern Caribbean. Timing was perfect because in September of last year, Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria, which devastated the island and many others. We spent several days in San Juan before sailing to five islands (St. Marteen, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Thomas/St. John).
In San Juan, we visited the Castillo de San Cristobal
Looking back, after the hurricane hit, I see why they are having issues restoring power. As a matter of fact, I read last week that a third of Puerto Rico's residents were still without power! Don't ask me why I took a photo of the power lines, except that they stood out to me as looking so dangerous . This was taken on a walk through the streets of San Juan.
Once we set sail, our first stop was St. Thomas, but we headed over to St. John and enjoyed Trunk Bay Beach - definitely in our top 3 beach destinations.
Our next stop was The Boatyard in Barbados - A day resort. Very family friendly and I highly recommend it if you're on a cruise and just want to chill.
This little beach (where the locals hang out) was right off the main road in St. Lucia.
I'm going to be honest, we did go to the beach in St. Kitts, but I did not like St. Kitts, at all! Here's the one photo I did get while on a tour.......I'm like, NEXT!
We ended on a good note though! We loved the beach in St. Marteen. We also experienced seeing our first nude beach (that is a whole story in itself!)
As I like to say.......A ball was had by ALL!

Beautiful photos and I understand about the power lines - we saw the same thing over and over in Ecuador!

Looking forward to your selfies on the nude beach when we hit "N is for Nude" in the challenge.
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny!! No cameras were allowed on that side of the beach, but I can say it was a sight for sore eyes!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful time and such beautiful photos, Heidi! How nice that you visited before the hurricane. Just horrible that so many are still without power. I'll admit that I have no interest in photos of the nude beach.

hahahaha! No worries Emily - Nothing to see there!
DeleteHow lucky you were to see those areas before the devastation. I see these places on House Hunters a lot, and not one word about the hurricanes. I guess that wouldn't "sell." I still think about the people there which sadly seem to have been forgotten by the media.
ReplyDeleteRight, they don't mention that on House Hunters. I know St. John was hit really hard, but we would love to go back there. It's a very special place.
